Theme 1: Thriving Places
Increased use of the Plaza for events and markets – this could include specialist markets such as farmer's markets and food festivals, and a mixture of events including film screenings, theatre, music productions, art exhibitions





Improve the look of Kirkby Town Centre, which could include increased cleaning and redecoration, more street furniture and planters, grants for shop fronts, improvements to the plaza





Improved access to information about what’s available locally – this could include digital billboards and relocation/more noticeboards





Grants and support for shops in Kirkby – this would be available for existing shops and to support new independent traders into the area





Provide a Community Hub in the town centre which could include a library, sporting activities, employment support, education, activity and events space





Increased police presence on streets as deterrent to anti-social behaviour, crime, littering and dog fouling





Improve the parks within Kirkby and Annesley – this could include new multi-use games areas, improvements to existing play equipment, BMX track/ scooter park, refurbishment of sports courts and improved LED floodlighting





Additional CCTV e.g. in town centre, neighbourhoods and bus stops





Purchase buildings for local sports clubs, activity providers and organisations to deliver regular activities





Review road layout and parking provision around the town, consider EV chargers and improved signage





Improve the network of paths to enable more people to walk, cycle and wheel safely





Creation of a green route linking Lane End and Portland Park with the Nuncargate area, using existing footpaths – to create a safer walking and cycling route to the town centre and the railway station





Provide funding to refurbish/renovate existing community buildings within the area, to provide more appropriate places for local activities to take place and safeguard local heritage





Enhance the Kirkby Cross area





Enhance the disabled access provision at Kirkby Railway Station and improve signage/connectivity to other places





Develop burglary reduction schemes, which could include Neighbourhood Watch schemes





Provide safe and supportive environments for people with experience of homelessness and rough sleeping





Neighbourhood renewal through modernisation of social housing, and improvements to the attractiveness and liveability of homes and their surroundings





Theme 2: Stronger Communities
Increase funding to local organisations to increase volunteering activities, activities for the community, improve physical and mental health and develop heritage, arts or social action





Increase funding available to local sports clubs to support more people to take part in sports and activities, and encourage growth of new clubs offering activities not available in the area





Activity Leaders in parks providing positive things for children and young people to do in the evenings, weekends and during school holidays, and trusted people for children and young people to talk to





More community events in parks and public spaces





Provide funding and provision for residents to engage in community green spaces such as alleyway greening, allotment projects





Develop and deliver educational activities to increase awareness of young people of the dangers of knife crime





Increase services and projects that support people with substance abuse, drug and alcohol addictions, offending, domestic abuse, poor mental health





Develop community initiatives to reduce the cost of living (e.g. reduce energy bills/childcare costs)





Theme 3: Taking Back Control
Develop projects that improve awareness of, and access to, local provision that moves people closer to and into long-term employment





Improve and expand existing local business support and networks for smaller businesses and social enterprises





Development, improvement, and promotion of the visitor economy, such as local attractions, historical trails, cultural tours and campaigns





Deliver training and support programmes for local people and community group leaders to build the capacity of communities to meet their own needs, and to engage with and influence decision makers





Deliver community-based adult learning programmes, to develop confidence and life skills (including cooking and household repair), and to improve essential skills in maths, English and digital
