Ashfield District Council’s Housing Team have been praised for carrying out hundreds of essential repairs and gas checks since the start of the coronavirus lockdown.
Over the past three weeks, Ashfield District Council has carried out over 500 essential repairs to its homes across the District. In addition to this, 350 gas and electrical servicing checks have also been completed and 100% of all emergency repairs have been carried out within 24 hours of being reported.
Cllr Tom Hollis, Cabinet Member for Housing said “It is fantastic that our housing team have continued to deliver essential repairs during these difficult times. As well as repairs - we are also continuing with our vital annual gas safety checks. All officers are following appropriate social distancing and PPE as necessary when visiting tenant’s homes. We have also written to every single Council Tenant with crucial contact details with dozens getting in contact. Yet again, our housing team are proving they are there when residents need us.”
The Council have also offered accommodation to an additional 20 rough sleepers and those threatened with rough sleeping. At its peak, the number of households in temporary accommodation totalled 50. We have been able to move on 28 households into secure, long term accommodation.
Paul Parkinson, Ashfield District Council’s Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Housing and Assets said, “In order to meet the unprecedented demand for accommodation and to reduce the reliance on Bed and Breakfast accommodation, our Housing team quickly prepared 10 additional properties which were becoming empty within the District.”
“We have also accommodated 20 rough sleepers and people threatened with rough sleeping, and our Private Sector Enforcement team has dealt with 411 enquiries from private tenants in relation to their tenancy, preventing 47 illegal evictions through negotiation and intervention. I’d like to thank all the members of our housing team for yet again going above the call of duty.”
