Holocaust Memorial Day marked with Tree Planting

Wednesday 1 February 2017 Holocaust Memorial Day marked with Tree Planting

Ashfield District Council marked Holocaust Memorial Day 2017 with the planting of a commemorative tree at Brierley Forest Park on Friday, 27th January.

The Chairman of Ashfield District Council, Cllr David Griffiths was joined by Council Leader, Cllr Cheryl Butler and children from year two at All Saints School, Huthwaite.

Said Cllr Griffiths “Holocaust Memorial Day is a time for everyone to pause to remember the millions of people who have been murdered or whose lives were changed during the Holocaust, and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.”

“We can honour the survivors of these events and ask what we can do to prevent genocide in the future. It’s a time when we think about the past and look towards the future. I hope the tree planted today will mark a place for reflection for many to visit”.
