Hucknall resident celebrates reaching 100!
A birthday card from the Queen was waiting for Hucknall resident Hilda (Tilly) Tilcock, a lifelong resident of Hucknall, on reaching the special age of 100 on Wednesday 2nd of September.
Vice Chairman of Ashfield District Council, Cllr Arnie Hankin and local District Councillor for Hucknall, Cllr John Wilmott, both presented her with a bunch of flowers and a card at her party at the George Street Club.
Born to Joseph and May Palethorpe at 4 Spring Street in Hucknall in 1920 she was one of six children, three boys and three girls. She was educated at the Spring Street and Beardall Street schools and took part in the 1934 Hucknall Christmas Carnival.
For many years Tilly worked at Wass and Co on Lingford Street in Hucknall where she made stockings. Her final employment was as a cleaner for the Council.
Tilly is known as an icon for older people thanks to how much of an active member of the community she is. She is always taking part in activities at the Methodist Church, the Hucknall Christian Centre and Darlison Court. Tilly also did a lot of knitting and cake baking for the Christian Centre and was always encouraging others to join in with all events. Tilly’s efforts were recognized in 2008 when she was made Citizen of the year by Ashfield District Council
Cllr Arnie Hankin, Deputy Chairman of Ashfield District Council, said
