This year’s Tour of Britain will once again be coming to Ashfield as part of the Nottinghamshire Stage of the race.
Last year’s race saw hundreds of residents line the streets to welcome the riders through the district. This year the race will be visiting the County on Saturday 8th September allowing even more residents to enjoy the atmosphere and race.
Stage 7 of the Tour will see riders travel from West Bridgford to Mansfield, following the success of last year’s event which attracted 210,000 supporters on the day, one of the biggest turn-outs across the eight stage race.
This year the racers will travel via Hucknall town centre, through Selston and out through Annesley. The race will be well underway by the time they reach Ashfield with the Peloton cycling at full race speed.
Ashfield District Council will be holding an event in Hucknall on race day with fun for all the family including Queens of Rock show, Active Ashfield Final and free activities throughout the day. Events are also being organised in Selston by the Parish Council.
Cllr Jason Zadrozny, Leader of Ashfield District Council says “It’s great that Ashfield is once again a part of this prestigious sporting event, last year residents really embraced the race and we hope they’ll do the same this year. It provides an opportunity for residents to experience a world class sporting event on their doorstep for free, and is an opportunity for Ashfield to put itself on the map. Last year 39% of people viewing the Nottinghamshire Stage were visiting the county, with a large number of these visiting Ashfield, and we hope to increase on that this year. I encourage as many residents as possible to get involved and get out and watch the race.”
