Warwick Close on the Coxmoor Estate in Kirkby-in-Ashfield is now home to nine families following the redevelopment of empty properties by Ashfield District Council.
The redevelopment of the nine properties, some of which had been empty for up to eight years, started in November 2016 and welcomed their first tenants in May 2017. The refurbishments, carried out by Nottingham based building contactors J.Tomlinson Ltd, include new roofs, windows & doors, kitchens, bathrooms and decoration throughout.
The properties are a welcome addition to the Council housing stock and have been let under a revised lettings policy which will create a long term benefit to the area, and ensure we maintain a balanced and sustainable community.
Local residents and tenants have showed overwhelming support for the refurbishment and letting of these empty properties. A Warwick Close resident said “After years of waiting for these improvements we are really happy to welcome our new neighbours. This has been a long time coming but we can now start to build a community and take pride in where we live”.
Ashfield District Council’s Portfolio holder for housing, Cllr. Keir Morrison commented “It is great to see these properties completed and local families enjoying their new homes. The redevelopment of these properties highlights the Councils commitment to providing high quality Council housing as well as our commitment to bringing empty homes in the district back into use.”
