Energy Efficiency Grants ECO 3
Energy companies are obliged under the Government’s ‘Energy Company Obligation’ (ECO) to provide energy saving measures to homes and is focused fully on low income and vulnerable households. It is a government backed scheme that helps eligible homes receive efficiency improvements to reduce fuel bills and keep homes healthy and warm.
The Council can help qualifying householders access funding for a replacement boiler or home insulation through the government’s ECO flex. ECO3 will continue until March 2022.
A Kirkby resident has seen her life transformed thanks to an affordable warmth grant awarded by Ashfield District Council and due to being in receipt of a particular benefit, she did not have to contribute anything.
Mrs Divine was living with an old back boiler heating system and no heating at all in the downstairs area. She was using a plug in electric heater to warm the living room, where she spends most of her time, this resulted in the other rooms downstairs getting extremely cold. By installing gas central heating to the property we were able to keep a consistent temperature throughout the whole of the property keeping Mrs Divine warm and healthy.
As part of this, the team liaised with Cadent to put a gas connection to the property and EON to organise for a meter to be installed. They also supported Mrs Divine to switch to dual fuel billing, to minimise cost. It took approximately 7 days for the works to be complete, but the benefits were instant.
Mrs Divine said “The contractors were very polite and always made sure I was warm whilst the doors were open. They didn’t leave any mess and always kept the house tidy. I’m very happy with the outcome and can feel the difference. I can do a lot more around the house now!
Councillor John Willmott said “Introducing the affordable warmth grant has allowed Ashfield District Council to work with contractors to provide the warmth and support owner occupied residents need. We will continue to provide support, guidance and work with contractors to provide the best service.”
