Ashfield Celebrated the King’s Coronation

Hundreds of residents took to Titchfield Park, Hucknall, for Ashfield District Council’s big screening of the King’s Coronation on Saturday 6 May.

Residents gathered in their hundreds to watch the once-in-a-generation event followed by a free screening of Paddington 2.

The live stream of the coronation was watched by hundreds of visitors on the park, families and friends were waving their flags whilst they witnessed the landmark celebration. There was lots on offer to keep the whole family entertained with free face painting and balloon models, inflatable slides and bouncy castles, a walkabout prince and princess, and a bustling market village.

The 45 market stalls offered a variety of products including plants, knitwear, jewellery, sweets, cakes, street food, dog accessories, pocket money toys, donuts, wax melts, crepes, soft toys, clothing, cheese, and personalised gifts.

Despite the downpour, over a thousand residents showed up to support the event and had a royally good time.

Cllr Lee Waters, said:

“It was fantastic to see so many residents come to Titchfield Park in Hucknall to celebrate the coronation as one community. Ashfield District Council has a Splendid Summer lined up with Films in the Park at Selston, Ashfield Day returning to Sutton Lawn in August, and the fabulous Food and Drink Festival at Hucknall in late August.
“Last year the Council hosted an array of excellent free events that were attended by thousands of residents and this year we hope to exceed that success with our Splendid Summer of events.”
