Ashfield celebrates as six parks win Green Flag Awards
Six parks in Ashfield have once again been awarded with the Green Flag Award.
The six parks that have been awarded the Green Flag 2020 are Brierley Forest Park, Kingsway Park, Portland Park, Selston Country Park, Sutton Lawn and Titchfield Park.
The Green Flag was raised at each park respectively by Council Leader, Cllr Jason Zadrozny, and Chairman, Cllr Andy Meakin along with other Councillors and community members.
The Green Flag Award scheme recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
Ada Lovelace House was lit up in green on Wednesday 14th October, along with buildings around the country, to celebrate Ashfield’s Green Flag Award success. It will also be a message of thanks to the parks staff, volunteers and the Green Flag Award Judges for all their work this year.
Cllr Jason Zadrozny, Leader of ADC, said “We are so pleased to have received six green flags in our fantastic parks again this year. We have invested heavily into our parks and green spaces to ensure that they are places that can be enjoyed by everyone. During the pandemic, our parks have proven to be popular with our residents as a place to escape the stress and to enjoy connecting with nature.
“This year in particular people have seen the value of having great quality green spaces on their doorstep. We are proud of the hard work that our teams have put into maintaining our parks to such a high standard that they are nationally recognized as being some of the best parks in the country!”
Commenting on Ashfield District Council’s success, Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton OBE said: “This year, more than ever, our parks and green spaces have been a lifeline and we know that millions of people have used them to relax, meet friends, exercise or simply escape for a short time.
“It is testament to the incredible dedication and hard work of parks staff and volunteers that, despite the challenges that went along with record numbers of visitors, Ashfield District Council has achieved the highest international standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”
