Conference set to shine a light of benefits of automation

A conference to explore the implications for businesses around the greater use automative technologies is being held in Ashfield (Wednesday 17 May).

‘Automation for YOU’ brings together a range of high-quality speakers, particularly from early adopter companies, who will talk about the benefits to their businesses.

They include Andy Dean, project manager at the forthcoming Automated Distribution & Manufacturing Centre (AMDC), Mark Wood, Managing Director of Alliance Procurement Solutions and Tim Telford, Chief Technology Officer at Devtank Ltd.

The free to attend conference is aimed at East Midlands businesses that might not yet have embraced the potential benefits of automation, or those that are looking to take things to the next level.

There will also be a range of exhibitors – 25 stalls in total - including companies and organisations showcasing a range of automation and digital technologies.

These will include topics like robotics; systems integration; remote condition monitoring; process monitoring and control; automated mobile robots (AMRs); warehouse solutions; conveyor systems; automation design and implementation.

One of the key talking points will be the creation of a new Automated Distribution and Manufacturing Centre (ADMC), which is set to be based in Ashfield.

Set to open in 2024, the centre is set to become a national and international centre of excellence in the evolving debate and practice around automation.

It follows last year’s allocations from the Government’s Towns Fund, which saw Ashfield receive nearly £70 million for a range of projects – the highest single allocation for any council in the country – including funding for the ADMC.

Chief Executive of Ashfield District Council, Theresa Hodgkinson, said:

“Capturing the benefits of automation is fundamental to addressing the UK’s long-standing productivity problems.
“So, I’m incredibly proud that Ashfield is front and centre of the debate – both with this conference and longer-term with the ADMC."
"We intend to turn this area into a national and international exemplar of how automation can not only increase industrial productivity, but also how it can create the value-adding jobs of the future.”
