Cemeteries, crematoriums and burials

We have 6 cemeteries in Ashfield where we carry out burials on week days, except Bank Holidays. We also look after 7 churchyards where burials no longer take place. Cremations take place at Mansfield and District Crematorium.

Bereavement and organising a funeral can be a daunting experience. We are here to make what can be a difficult process easier. A funeral director can help you organise the details of a service, cremation and burial or you can contact us directly.

Reporting a death

Deaths should be registered with the Registrar at Nottinghamshire County Council. You will need to make an appointment with the registrar which can be done online:

  • website: How to register a death and book an appointment with the Registrar - Nottinghamshire County Council

Or contact their customer services:

  • telephone: 0300 500 80 80.

The registrar will be able to help you with notifying other government departments using the Tell Us Once service.

  • website: Tell Us Once - GOV.UK

Cremations

Cremations take place at Mansfield and District Crematorium. It has 2 chapels and is set in woodland on the outskirts of Mansfield.

You can find it at:

Mansfield and District Crematorium
Derby Road

We look after 6 cemeteries at:

We have common graves, and purchased grave plots available. When you purchase a grave you have the right to decide who will be buried in it and have that exclusive right for 75 years. For common graves we decide who will be buried in it and they may not be members of the same family. No memorials can be put on common graves.

For other cemeteries a service or cremation can be held elsewhere and then coffin or ashes brought to the cemetery for burial only.

After burial graves are levelled and lawned over. A marble or granite headstone and vase plinth can be added to purchased graves but nothing else can be placed or grown around the grave. We maintain graves at no extra cost but keeping the memorial on purchased graves in good condition and safe is the responsibility of the grave owner. We may take immediate action if we find a headstone or memorial which is unsafe.

You can visit our cemeteries at any time of year but opening times do vary depending on the season.
