Ashfield District Council highlights graduate opportunities at national Impact event
Council representatives have been showcasing the district in an effort to attract high-flying graduates to come and work for the authority.
Ashfield joined a number of local authorities all interested in recruiting shortlisted candidates from a Local Government Impact graduate programme.
Impact is a fast-track programme for bright and passionate individuals who want to make a difference while excelling in their own careers. It offers the chance to work directly with communities, but also to influence policies and plans at a senior level.
The event, in London, gave graduates the opportunity to explore local authorities nationwide before selecting which councils they wish to interview with. For councils, it is a vital platform to showcase their values, ambitions, and the meaningful career pathways available within local government.
Representatives from Ashfield District Council (ADC) attended to engage directly with candidates, share insights into the Council’s work, and highlight the unique benefits of building a career in Ashfield. Their presence ensured that graduates gained a clear understanding of the Council’s forward‑thinking culture, its commitment to innovation, and its dedication to delivering high‑quality services for residents.
Councillor Matthew Relf, Executive Lead Member for Growth, Regeneration and Local Planning, said: “Attracting talented graduates is essential to building a strong, resilient and future‑ready Council. Events like this give us the chance to showcase our ambition for Ashfield and highlight the opportunities available for people who want to make a real and lasting difference in our community.
Our current graduates are already achieving great things, from contributing to major regeneration projects to developing into some of the organisation’s emerging leaders. By investing in the next generation, we strengthen not only the Council, but the district as a whole.”
Ashfield District Council has already seen the transformative impact of graduate recruitment. Graduates from the Impact Programme have become integral to the organisation, driving projects, shaping policy, and bringing fresh perspectives that enhance the Council’s ability to serve residents effectively. Their contributions have strengthened teams across the authority and helped embed a culture of continuous improvement.
The Council remains committed to investing in emerging talent and developing a skilled, motivated workforce capable of meeting the needs of Ashfield both now and in the years ahead. By continuing to champion graduate recruitment, ADC is building the foundations of a modern, dynamic, and community‑focused local authority.
