Ashfield District Council’s website ranked among most accessible in UK
Ashfield District Council has been ranked 17th out of 382 local authorities across the UK for website accessibility, achieving an 'Excellent' rating and a score of 99% accessibility in July.
The latest independent accessibility assessment places Ashfield District Council's website among the highest-performing council websites in the country, reflecting the authority's ongoing commitment to ensuring online services and information are accessible to all residents.
The Council's website significantly outperformed many neighbouring authorities, ranking higher than Bassetlaw District Council, Mansfield District Council, Newark and Sherwood District Council, Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council in the July 2026 assessment.
The achievement is the result of a collective effort between the Council's Digital team and colleagues across the organisation, who have worked to ensure content remains accessible, accurate and up to date. Measures that have contributed to the high ranking include regularly reviewing website content, improving document accessibility, reducing the use of PDFs and ensuring updates and changes are submitted through the Council's website management processes.
Councillor John Wilmott, Executive Lead for Customer and Digital Experience, said:
"We're delighted to see Ashfield District Council's website achieve a 99% accessibility score and be recognised as one of the best-performing council websites in the country.
"Accessibility is about making sure every resident can access the information and services they need, regardless of ability or circumstance. This achievement reflects the hard work of our Digital team and colleagues across the Council who continue to prioritise accessible content and support improvements across the website.
"While we're proud of this ranking, website accessibility is an ongoing journey. We'll continue working to improve our digital services and ensure our website remains accessible for everyone."
The Council's website is continually monitored and assessed through external accessibility scanning tools, meaning rankings can change as improvements are made and new content is published. The Digital team will continue working to maintain high standards and build on the success achieved so far.
