Ashfield sparkles after Big Spring Clean
Ashfield is shining once again as the Big Ashfield Spring Clean 2026 is celebrated as another outstanding success, bringing communities together in a district‑wide effort to get ready for the season ahead.
Building on the momentum of previous years, this year’s Spring Clean saw residents, volunteers, community groups, and council teams join forces to keep Ashfield clean, green, and looking its very best.
Throughout March, residents embraced the initiative with real enthusiasm, making full use of the Flying Skips stationed across the district. The Waste and Environment team were out for 3 consecutive Saturdays, rotating between Kirkby, the rural areas, Hucknall, and Sutton to give residents an easy and convenient way to dispose of excess bagged waste. From household rubbish to toys and bric‑a‑brac, people took the chance to declutter and refresh their homes for spring.
Council waste advisers were also active throughout the month, offering practical guidance and support. Meanwhile, community groups and volunteers organised litter picks that helped brighten streets, parks, and open spaces — adding an extra sparkle across Ashfield.
Since its launch, the Spring Clean has grown into one of the district’s most impactful community initiatives. In 2025, around 129 tonnes of unwanted items were collected. This year, that figure rose to 167.5 tonnes, a clear sign of residents’ continued commitment to keeping Ashfield clean, welcoming, and well cared for.
Councillor Paul Grafton, Chairman of Ashfield District Council, praised the district’s collective effort:
“The Big Ashfield Spring Clean is one of the clearest demonstrations of the pride people have in Ashfield. Once again, residents stepped forward to look after their communities, and the results speak for themselves.
I want to thank everyone who took part your efforts make a real and lasting difference, and together we’re helping to create a cleaner, greener Ashfield for all. We’ve all heard of Keep Britain Tidy; well, it starts in Ashfield.”
