Celebrate World Health Day at Kirkby Leisure Centre
Free swimming and a chance to learn more about the best ways to stay healthy is on offer at Kirkby Leisure Centre.
Everyone Active, in partnership with Ashfield District Council, is offering free activities and stalls at the Hodgkinson Road centre on Tuesday 7 April to celebrate World Health Day.
Among the free activities will be a Good Boost taster session in the pool from 11am to 11.45am. This is a therapeutic exercise programme designed for people with limited mobility and musculoskeletal conditions.
There will also be free 30-minute personal training sessions in the gym between 12 noon and 3pm, as well as a sound bath session from 2pm to 3pm in the Mary Rose Health Hub.
In addition, an open swim session will take place from 3pm to 4pm, with all activities being first come, first served on the day.
Market stalls will be open from noon to 5pm, with more than 20 organisations offering guidance and helping people improve their health and wellbeing.
These include Your Health Notts, Alzheimer’s Society, Ashfield District Council, Nottingham Forest community team, NIDAS, Talking Therapies and Inspire.
World Health Day is celebrated annually and marks the founding of the World Health Organisation in 1948.
Cllr Chris Huskinson, Ashfield District Council’s Executive Lead Member for Leisure, Health and Wellbeing, said:
“Looking after the health and wellbeing of our residents is a top priority for us and this is the perfect opportunity to find out more about what our leisure centres have to offer on World Health Day.”
Sarah Kirk, Everyone Active’s health activity and wellbeing manager, said:
“We are really looking forward to welcoming the local community to Kirkby Leisure Centre on World Health Day.
“We hope the variety of free activities will encourage people to focus on their health and wellbeing, as well as showcasing the fantastic array of facilities within the centre.”
