Celebrating our green spaces during Love Parks Week

Ashfield District Council is encouraging residents and visitors to get outdoors and discover the district’s fantastic parks and green spaces as part of Love Parks Week.

From family events and outdoor recreation to wildlife, cafés and play areas, Ashfield's parks are at the heart of communities across the district and provide something for everyone to enjoy.

Whether it’s taking a stroll around Kings Mill Reservoir, spotting swans on the water, exploring woodland trails at Brierley Forest Park, enjoying a coffee in one of our park cafés or letting children burn off energy in our playgrounds, Ashfield's green spaces offer countless opportunities to relax, be active and connect with nature.

Ashfield has once again been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award for 7 of our parks, these include Brierley Forest Park, Kings Mill Reservoir, Kingsway Park, Portland Park, Selston Country Park, Sutton Lawn and Titchfield Park.

Our parks are also home to some of the district's biggest community events. Sutton Lawn welcomes thousands of visitors each year to the popular Ashfield Show, while Titchfield Park provides the backdrop for Hucknall Fest, another popular summer event.

Across the district, the Council continues to support biodiversity and create spaces where nature can thrive. Residents can enjoy colourful wildflower displays, including at Mickey's Field, at Sutton Lawn, which help support pollinators and enhance local habitats, alongside lakes, woodlands and open spaces that are home to a variety of wildlife.

Councillor Helen-Ann Smith, Executive Lead Member for Parks and Environmental Services, said:

"Love Parks Week is all about celebrating the incredible green spaces we have right on our doorstep and the role they play in bringing our communities together.

"Our parks are much more than open spaces. They are places where families spend time together, where children play, where people can enjoy nature and improve their health and wellbeing, and where communities come together for some of our biggest events.

"We're incredibly proud of our parks and the fact that seven of them have achieved Green Flag status, recognising the high standards we maintain across the district. From major events such as Ashfield Show and Hucknall Fest to our beautiful wildflower areas, playgrounds, cafés and walking routes, there are so many reasons to visit and enjoy our parks this summer."

Love Parks Week is a national celebration of the UK's parks and green spaces, recognising the important contribution they make to local communities, wildlife and wellbeing.

Ashfield District Council is encouraging everyone to take the opportunity to explore a new park, enjoy a walk with friends and family, or simply spend some time outdoors enjoying the district's award-winning green spaces.
