Communities granted over half a million funding
The Discover Ashfield Board, supported by the Council, have awarded £536,402 in grants to 15 community groups across Hucknall, Selston, Underwood, and Annesley.
The grants are from a portion of Ashfield District Council’s £1.5 million Pride in Place Impact Fund and are designed to support organisations that lease or own community venues. The aim of the grants is to secure long-term community use, enhance local pride in place, and ensure facilities remain safe, welcoming and fit for purpose.
The successful organisations are:
- John Godber Centre, Hucknall
- Underwood Miners Welfare Cricket Club
- The Tin Hat Centre, Selston
- St Johns Outreach Project, Annesley
- Hucknall Wildlife Group
- St Johns Community Hall, Hucknall
- West Hucknall Baptist Church
- Hucknall Hope Lea Project
- Acacia Centre Limited, Annesley Woodhouse
- Hucknall & District Voluntary Sector Partnership (Under One Roof)
- 1803 (Hucknall) Squadron RAF Air Cadets and RFCA
- Watnall Road Baptist Church, Hucknall
- All Saints Church Hall, Annesley
- Hucknall Central & East Side Methodist Church
- Annesley & Felley Parish Council – Parish Hall
The grant funding will pay for a range of safety and accessibility improvements, energy efficiency measures, general repairs and building upgrades.
Underwood Miners Welfare Cricket Club plan to use their funding to replace the old nets with an ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) standard training facility to increase participation, especially for women and girls.
Over in Hucknall at Under One Roof, they intend to refurbish the café, kitchen and IT spaces to improve flexibility and capacity.
The 15 organisations were chosen and approved by the Discover Ashfield Board, which is made up of representatives from local businesses, education, healthcare, voluntary and charity sectors, and local Councillors and is supported by Ashfield District Council.
The remaining funds from the Pride in Place Impact Fund are set to be used to fund improvements to Hucknall Market Place and High Street, a replacement of the skatepark in Jacksdale, shop front grants for businesses in Sutton and Stanton Hill, and match funding for the PlayZone in Selston.
Cllr Matthew Relf, Executive Lead Member for Growth, Regeneration and Local Planning said:
“We are extremely pleased to be able to award these grants to support the community in Hucknall, Annesley, Selston, and Underwood. There are so many groups, clubs and organisations who do fantastic work that will benefit from this funding to help transform their spaces for the good of the community.”
Kieran Percival, Chairman of the Discover Ashfield Board, said:
“We received so many worthy applications from fantastic community groups, and it was a hard decision to settle on our final 15. Ashfield is full of passionate people doing incredible things, and this funding is here to help them grow. We’re excited to see how local organisations will use it to bring people together, support one another, and continue building a community we can all be proud of”.
