Green light for new Leamington Partnership Hub
A new hub in the heart of Leamington aims to stamp out antisocial behaviour.
Ashfield District Council has revealed plans for the Leamington Partnership Hub in Jephson Building, on Jephson Road. It will see an empty flat transformed into a base for police, housing officers and the community protection team to enhance safety in the area.
The flat will be turned into two offices for 18 months before being restored back into a home when it is no longer needed. There will not be access for the public which will limit the interruptions for those living nearby.
The property had been subject to a closure order by Nottinghamshire Police and the force worked with the Council to enable this to happen. Since the closure, police have seen a significant improvement in the area with positive feedback.
Cllr Sarah Madigan, who represents Leamington on Ashfield District Council, said:
“This new hub will allow officers to be right in the middle of Leamington, an area known to be an antisocial behaviour hotspot.
“It means they will be close by if residents to need their assistance and officers have a base where they can go. This is a brilliant initiative which will also see a vacant flat brought back into use to benefit the whole community.
“I look forward to hearing more about how the hub is benefitting the officers and the whole community in Leamington.”
PC Ryan Frew-McGill, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“This is real win win for everyone involved. For local residents it provides an excellent deterrent, and for officers it is a convenient local hub which will enable us to spend more time in the local community.
“Tackling antisocial behaviour is a key local policing priority, and our work across the Leamington Estate will be greatly assisted by this initiative and by the closer partnership working it will encourage.
“This is a good example of how we have engaged with the local community, listened to their concerns, and are working to provide a more visible and proactive response in the area.”
