Hucknall mural designs revealed
Ashfield District Council has revealed the designs of two murals that will be painted on Central Walk and Chapel Street.
The murals are set to be painted as part of the wider programme of improvements to the pedestrian links between Piggins Croft and Hucknall high street. Two locally based artists were chosen to design the public art following a tender process. The artists will be revealed at the time of painting.
On Chapel Street, B&M will welcome a striking piece of public art that depicts famous figures from Hucknall’s history telling the story of Hucknall. From Ada Lovelace, to the flying bedstead, the mural’s graphic style will add vitality and brightness to the street facing building.
All four gable ends of the Range on Central Walk will feature mini murals welcoming visitors to Hucknall. Painted in an illustrative style, the artwork will be the finishing touch to transformation of Central Walk.
The painting of the murals is expected to start in the coming weeks.
Cllr Matthew Relf, Executive Lead Member for Growth, Regeneration and Local Planning, said:
“We are extremely excited to be able to share these designs for Central Walk and Chapel Street. Thriving town centres need to offer a variety of attractions, not just places to shop and eat, and public art plays a huge role in shaping the feel of a town. We are proud of Hucknall’s heritage and we wanted to see that reflected on the high street.”
Cllr Lee Waters, Ward Member for Hucknall Central, said:
“It’s great to see these designs coming forward. Hucknall has a proud history, and we should celebrate it.
“I’m particularly pleased to see Chapel Street getting some attention. People want a town centre that looks welcoming, feels cared for and is somewhere we can all be proud of. Hopefully, these murals will bring some much-needed colour and character to our streets for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
