Kingsway grass pitches closure
As part of the Council’s investment into Kingsway Park, several grass pitches will be fenced off from Sunday 17 May 2026.
A barrier will be installed on the field to protect the grass and allow the improvement works to take effect to create two high quality natural grass pitches and will remain in place for up to a year.
This pitch improvements are part of Ashfield District Council’s Kingsway Sports Hub project which is includes the construction of a new changing room facility for football, hockey, and tennis, a new energy efficient bowls pavilion, and an extended car park. The hub aims to improve access to high quality sports provision for the community, encouraging more residents and families to engage in activities on the park.
Four mini pitches will be created on the main field of Kingsway Park in the coming weeks, meaning some areas of the grass will also be fenced off.
Cllr Matthew Relf, Executive Lead Member for Growth, Regeneration and Local Planning, said:
“We know this will be a bit inconvenient for the park users, but it is a case of short term pain for long term gain. We are asking that people respect the barriers and don’t climb over them to access the grass. For the improvements to work, the grass needs undisturbed time to establish and grow.
“This project is about encouraging more people to use the sports facilities to improve their physical and mental health, engage in social activities and for young people to find a lifelong love of sport.”
