Kirkby Christmas light switch on 2025

Kirkby Plaza will play host to Kirkby’s annual Christmas light switch on event this week, on Thursday 27 November.

The Christmas light switch on, hosted by Ashfield District Council in partnership with Out of the Box Events, kicks off at 4pm with a line up of local primary schools, a dance school, and adult choirs performing Christmas carols, festive songs and dancing:

  • 4pm Greenwood Primary
  • 4.30pm Orchard Primary School
  • 5pm Christine March School of Dance
  • 5.30pm Kirkby Churches Together
  • 6.30pm Kirkby Chorus
  • 7pm Chairman switches the lights on
  • 7.10pm Invisible Friends Choir

Over 25 stalls will be offering gifts, crafts, candles, Christmas wreaths, toys, sweets, baked goods, and pet treats. Hungry visitors can warm up with burgers, fries, German sausages and donuts. Ellis Street will be lined with funfair rides and games for the whole family to enjoy.

Cllr Chris Huskinson, Executive Lead Member for Wellbeing, Health and Leisure said

“Kirkby’s Christmas event is set to be a cracker of an evening with plenty of talented locals entertaining the crowds. The light switch on events are the best way to start the Christmas period, so make sure you bring your family and friends along”.

Ellis Street and Ellis Street car park will be closed for the event. Parking is available at Hodgkinson Road car park.
