Kirkby train station apartments coming soon
Ground has been broken on the land next to Kirkby Train Station that will welcome a new apartment block.
The project, funded by part of Ashfield District Council’s Towns Deal, will see 12 modern apartments with onsite parking, cycle storage and landscaping, supporting the demand for high-quality housing in the town centre.
Construction is taking place on the site of the old Wyvern Club, which was demolished last year after being identified as a key location for redevelopment. The new building will provide a more attractive welcome for visitors, residents and those just passing through with the design of the building reflecting the industrial heritage of the site, celebrating the history of the railway and its workers.
The proximity to the train station and the town centre provides an opportunity to kickstart the regeneration of this side of Kirkby, encouraging external investment into the other derelict areas around Lane End.
Councillor Matthew Relf, Executive Lead Member for Growth, Regeneration and Local Planning said:
“We are extremely pleased to see that start of this project, it’s going to make a real difference to this part of Kirkby. As one of the main entrances into Kirkby, it is important that people are greeted with attractive signs of investment, that Kirkby is a town on the up. This new build will do that while providing quality homes in a great location, perfect for people who commute into Nottingham or beyond.”
Andy Sewards, Chairman of G F Tomlinson, said:
“We are pleased to have started construction works on the West Kirkby Gateway development working in partnership with Ashfield District Council to deliver this important regeneration project, via the PAGABO Medium Works Public Sector Framework.
“We share Ashfield District Council’s aspirations for this scheme to transform a prominent site into a high-quality residential development that not only provides much-needed homes but also enhances the arrival experience into Kirkby. Its location next to the train station makes it an excellent example of sustainable, well-connected town centre living. We look forward to progressing construction over the coming months and delivering a development that will make a lasting positive contribution to the local area, supporting the wider regeneration ambitions for Kirkby and creating a place that residents can be proud of.”
