MakerSpace Ashfield now open
MakerSpace Ashfield, based on High Pavement in Sutton, is now officially open and accepting paid members.
MakerSpace Ashfield is a communal workshop space, the first of its kind outside of Nottingham, and allows members access to a range of professional tools and equipment for woodworking, metalworking, textiles, printmaking, CNC, 3D printers and a podcast studio.
On Sunday 7 June, Chairman, Cllr Dale Grounds, was invited to cut the ribbon at the official opening of MakerSpace Ashfield.
MakerSpace Ashfield came to life in 2021 as an idea to bring a communal workshop to Sutton, providing access to specialist tools and equipment for a range of crafts and skills for those who don't have the space or means at home. The Council paid for the refurbishment of the building and some of the machinery from their Future High Streets Fund and established a dedicated committee who now solely run the facility.
The MakerSpace is the first of its kind outside of Nottingham and Derby city centres and is already buzzing with community, ideas and creativity.
Cllr Dale Grounds, Chairman of the Council said
“We are extremely proud of this facility, and how the MakerSpace committee have taken full ownership of the space and worked to get it up and running. It's a fantastic example of how a community-led, Council-backed initiative can thrive and make a real difference.
“ We would like to thank the individuals and businesses who have donated time, expertise, materials, tools and equipment to the project over the years to make it a success.”
