Pupils’ artwork now brightening bin lorries across Ashfield
Primary school pupils across Ashfield have helped transform Ashfield District Council’s bin lorries after taking part in a district‑wide competition to design recycling‑themed artwork.
Children were invited to create posters for three separate vehicles, and schools across the district submitted a fantastic range of colourful, imaginative entries, showcasing just how passionately young people feel about protecting the environment.
The three winning designs have now been professionally printed and installed on the Council’s bin lorries. The vehicles are already out and about across Ashfield, meaning thousands of residents will see the pupils’ artwork each week as the lorries complete their rounds.
As part of their prize, the winners visited the Council’s Waste and Recycling Depot, where they saw their artwork up close on the lorries and learned more about how the service operates.
This year’s talented winners are:
- Skylar, aged 7 — Hucknall National Primary
- Stanley, aged 9 — Mapplewells Primary
- Arthur, aged 10 — Mapplewells Primary
Cllr Dale Grounds, Chairman of Ashfield District Council, said:
“The creativity shown by these pupils has been outstanding. Their designs don’t just brighten up our bin lorries; they help spread an important message about recycling across Ashfield. We had so many brilliant entries and it’s fantastic to see young people so engaged in looking after the environment.
