Shop front success
A garish shop front in Hucknall has now been redecorated thanks to Ashfield District Council’s intervention.
The shop, Hucknall Cloud, on the High Street featured unauthorised roller shutters, illuminated window signage and external advertisements that were in breach of planning control within the designated conservation area.
Following contact from the Council’s Planning Enforcement team who informed them of the breach, the owners and leaseholders of the shop removed all unauthorised advertisements and shutters.
Conservation areas are those which have 'special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance'. Hucknall’s conservation area covers Baker Street, Ogle Street, High Street, West Street, Vine Terrace, and Duke Street.
Cllr Lee Waters, Ward Member for Hucknall Central, said
“This is a real positive result for the Council and for Hucknall. The previous shop front stuck out for all the wrong reasons and the updated frontage looks much better. Shop owners and landlords have to respect the historic character of the area when planning the way their properties look. The conservation area is in place to protect the visual and physical feel of our town centre, and we will take enforcement action against anyone who breaches this.”
