Specialist conservation cleaning scheduled for Hucknall War Memorial
Ashfield District Council will be carrying out specialist conservation cleaning on the Hucknall War Memorial at Titchfield Park on Friday, as part of the Council’s scheduled programme of maintenance for war memorials across the district.
The work will be delivered by an approved specialist contractor, using conservation‑led techniques designed specifically for the sensitive cleaning of historic stone structures. This ensures the memorial is cared for in line with national best practice and remains a dignified and well‑preserved focal point for remembrance.
The Hucknall War Memorial is one of several heritage sites included in the Council’s routine cleaning and inspection cycle. The upcoming works will remove environmental staining, protect the stonework, and help ensure the memorial remains in excellent condition ahead of future commemorative events.
Cllr Lee Waters, Ward Councillor for Hucknall Central, said:
“Our war memorials are among the most important landmarks in our communities. They honour the bravery and sacrifice of local people, and it’s essential that we look after them with the respect they deserve. This specialist clean is part of our scheduled maintenance programme and reflects our commitment to preserving Hucknall’s heritage for generations to come.”
Residents visiting Titchfield Park next Friday may notice temporary equipment around the memorial while the contractor carries out the work. Access around the immediate area may be briefly restricted to ensure the safety of both workers and visitors.
Cleaning of the memorial is scheduled to be completed by next week.
