  • Sutton Christmas light switch on 2025
A big crowd of people are stood in front of a large Christmas tree with red and white lights on it

Sutton Christmas light switch on 2025

Sutton’s newly renovated Portland Square has been adorned with Christmas decorations, ready to host the annual Christmas light switch on event on Thursday 20 November.

The popular event, that has been held on the Market Place car park for the past few years, is now back in the town centre. The Christmas light switch on, hosted by Ashfield District Council in partnership with Out of the Box Events, kicks off at 4pm with a fantastic line up of local schools and a performer taking to the stage to provide Christmas cheer:

  • 4pm - Croft primary School
  • 4.30pm - Priestsic primary School
  • 5pm - Leamington Primary School
  • 5.30pm - St Mary's Primary School
  • 6pm - Dalestorth Primary School
  • 6.30pm - Breanna Thompson
  • 7pm Chairman switches the lights on
  • 7.10pm - Fortitude Danceworks

A Christmas market with over 30 stalls will be open all evening for shoppers to browse, offering gifts, crafts, sweets, pet accessories and baked goods. Visitors will be able to warm up with a hot chocolate and hot food from the catering vans.

Cllr Chris Huskinson, Executive Lead Member for Wellbeing, Health and Leisure said

“It will be great to see Portland Square buzzing on Thursday for the Christmas light switch on event. These events attract hundreds of people and light up the town centre with activity and are a great way for us to support local businesses.
“We’d like to say a big thank you to all the school children and teachers who work so hard to create memorable performances for the audience. The light switch on events are the best way to start the Christmas period, so make sure you bring your family and friends along”.

Parking for the event will be available at New Street, Sherwood Place and Market Place car parks in Sutton town centre.
