Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Awareness Week 2026
Ashfield District Council is marking ASB Awareness Week 2026 with a series of Community Safety surgeries, patrols and awareness events across the District.
ASB Awareness Week is an annual national initiative aimed at raising awareness, encouraging the reporting of crime and anti-social behaviour, and ensuring that victims receive the support they need.
Ashfield District Council’s Community Safety and Housing teams work in close partnership with Nottinghamshire Police Neighbourhood Policing Teams to deliver a coordinated and effective response to ASB across the district.
The Council’s Community Safety Team is based at the Hub within the Council Offices, located on the same floor as Kirkby Police Station. This shared environment enhances collaborative working, enabling a swift and joined-up approach to tackling community safety issues.
Our Community Protection Officers (CPOs) are highly visible, uniformed personnel who work alongside police colleagues. Their work includes patrolling identified hotspot areas, engaging directly with residents, and participating in Police Beat Surgeries to address local concerns.
A recent example of this successful partnership approach is the establishment of the Leamington Professionals Base on the Leamington Estate in Sutton. This initiative has increased uniformed visibility and provided a greater sense of safety and reassurance for residents
Across the District’s three main towns, Neighbourhood Policing Teams - in collaboration with Housing and Community Safety colleagues - have targeted properties linked to serious crime, ASB, and criminal activity. Using powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, the Council has secured a number of closure orders. Where such properties are owned by Ashfield District Council, robust tenancy enforcement action is taken, including seeking repossession where appropriate.
The primary objective of ASB Awareness Week is to encourage our communities to work collaboratively with the Council and Police. By strengthening these partnerships, we aim to improve public confidence, enhance feelings of safety, and build stronger, more resilient communities.
You can find the Community Safety Team across the District on:
- Monday 29 June 2026 1pm - 4pm on Kirkby Plaza
- Wednesday 1 July 2026 – 10am-12pm at the estate walkout on the Healdswood Estate in Sutton
- Thursday 2 July 2026 – 10am-2pm on Portland Square, Sutton
- Friday 3 July 2026 – 10am-2pm on Hucknall High Street outside the Nottingham Building Society
Also this week our CPOs are meeting with the Headmistress of Leamington Primary School to coordinate a joint approach/activities to tackle the school children committing ASB after school kick out time, and trespassing onto the building development site on Leamington.
The CPO South Team are in Hucknall conducting Feelings of Safety Surveys on Hucknall High Street, engaging the public and businesses about ASB issues, and raising awareness, as well as doing trade waste inspections.
CPO Allen is attending a partnership meeting at Teversal Visitors Centre joined by Nottinghamshire Police, Nottinghamshire County Council and local community groups to discuss ongoing issues with nuisance caused by off road bikes frequenting Teversal and Silverhill. Following this meeting CPO Allen and the Sutton Beat Police Team are holding a Beat Surgery in Huthwaite, and a letter drop on Healdswood Estate to provide reassurance after an increase in reported ASB there.
The CPO South Team will also be patrolling Titchfield park, Nabbs Lane Park, and Hucknall cemetery targeting dog fouling/littering.
