Following completion of the resurfacing and pedestrianisation works to High Street in Hucknall, the 19th century market has moved into a new home.
The Friday market has moved from the traditional Market Place to the High Street starting from today, Friday 16 June.
As part of the relocation the market stalls have also received a facelift with new red and white striped stall covers and red counter skirts.
Offering a wide variety of goods including fruit and vegetables, haberdashery, clothing, books and magazines, toiletries and general groceries, it's exciting times, marking the next step in reinvigorating Hucknall town centre as a great place to shop, visit and relax.
The market currently attracts 17 traders occupying 27 stalls selling a wide variety of goods including fruit and vegetables, haberdashery, clothing, books and magazines, toiletries and general groceries.
The plant and fresh fish traders will remain outside Hucknall Library following the relocation of the market.
There is now opportunity for new traders selling items not sold at the market are welcome to apply for a stall to the Markets Team at Ashfield District Council.
Councillor Don Davis, Deputy leader and portfolio holder for Place and Economic Growth said: “It’s brilliant to see the market in its new location, offering such a wide shopping offer to the residents of Hucknall and beyond.
“By bringing the market right into the town centre the increase footfall and it compliments our existing established retailers.”
In its brand new location, Hucknall market will also soon be bringing two special events to the town centre.
On Friday 7th July, The Byron Festival Market marks the start of The Hucknall Byron Festival, with the theme this year being Byron in Venice. Offering a wide range of craft, food and plant stalls the market opens at 9am; also joining in the fun is Paul Temple and Monty the Monkey who will entertain you as you browse the stalls and shops.
Ashfield Markets together with First Art are also holding their first joint event in Hucknall Town Centre on Saturday 5th August 2017.
The day will start with the opening of the First Art Takeaway Poetry and Makers Bakers and Craft market.
First Art are hosting a day of poetry and music around various locations in the town centre. They have invited the Takeaway Poetry team to Hucknall market. They are the ‘world’s first mobile poetry emporium. Other activities include Buskers and Inspire Poetry which will take place throughout the day in various locations in the Town Centre.
