A listed building is one that has been placed on statutory lists because of its special architectural or historical interest.

Undertaking works to a listed building
Consent will be required before any listed building can be demolished, extended or altered in any way that would affect its character. This includes both external and internal alterations, and can also include works to buildings and structures which surround a listed building.
Other types of projects that may need consent can include:
- changing windows or doors
- installing dormer windows or rooflights
- putting up satellite dishes or burglar alarms
- altering internal walls or sub-dividing rooms
- alterations to features like fireplaces
- painting the exterior of the property.
Residents undertaking works to a listed building are advised to contact us for advice prior to starting any works.
Apply for listed building consent
You will need written permission from us if you are planning to undertake works to a listed building.
An application for listed building consent will need to be submitted online through the Planning Portal.
