Well known for its award winning parks and green spaces, Ashfield District Council is committed to ensuring that good quality facilities continue to be provided for the community and visitors. A four year plan has been developed that will deliver improvements across the four main areas of the district, starting with the Rural area in 2019.
Working with Selston Parish Council, a Play Strategy has been developed which makes recommendations on how play areas and recreation areas can be best improved. Proposed improvements include; new gym equipment and scooter park at Friezeland Recreation Ground in Underwood and a multi-use games area at Main Road Recreation Ground, Jacksdale. Other planned improvements for 2018/19 include the play areas at Roundhills Recreation Ground and The Lawn in Sutton and Morven Park and West Park in Kirkby.
In addition, plans are in place to improve Wharf Road and provide informal parking bays on land to the rear of Brand Lane, Sutton to improve traffic flow. Subject to funding, the number of car park spaces at Jacksdale Community Centre will also be increased to provide much needed extra spaces.
Cllr Helen-Ann Smith, Deputy Leader of the Council says “Over the next four years the Council will be rolling out improvements to play areas across the district, starting with the Rural areas in 2019, these improvements will provide even better facilities in our already award winning parks and green spaces.
“We are also committed to improving green space across the district and the project at Wharf Road, Stanton Hill will make a real difference to the local community and the look of the area.”
Local communities will be consulted and are encouraged to have their say on the proposed plans.
