Ashfield District Council is celebrating its parks and green spaces next week as part of Love Parks Week.
The national campaign, run by Keep Britain Tidy, encourages everyone to get out and enjoy their favourite park, helping to protect them for future generations.
Ashfield is home to a number of amazing parks and green spaces, six of which hold the prestigious Green Flag award. Featuring a wide range of facilities including playgrounds, skate parks, outdoor gyms, tennis courts and playing fields they offer great spaces for residents to play, exercise and relax.
Events across the week include the official opening of Jacksdale multi use games area, Green Flag ceremonies and will conclude with the FREE outdoor cinema event at Sutton Lawn on Saturday 20th July. The screening of The Greatest Showman will offer families a memorable day of free fun with live music and entertainment including a Take That tribute act and the Discover Ashfield Factor Finals. The fun starts from 11am with the film starting at 1pm.
As well as this we’ll be promoting the lesser known parks across the district, spreading the word about how great our park cafes are and showcasing the work of our landscape gardeners and our incredible park displays.
Cllr Helen-Ann Smith, Cabinet Member for Streets, Parks and Town Centres said “Ashfield has some of the greatest parks in the county and we’re going to use Love Parks week to shout about just how great they are.
“The Council is committed to investing in parks. Improvements to play areas have recently been completed at Sutton Lawn and Broomhill Park, a multi use games area has been built in Jacksdale and work will be starting on a scooter park at Friezeland Recreation Ground. We know how much enjoyment residents get from our parks and we want future generations to continue to enjoy them for many years to come.”
