Council Increases Free Parking across the District

Friday 8 February 2019 Council Increases Free Parking across the District

Ashfield District Council will introduce two hours free parking in selected carparks across the district if recommendations are agreed by Cabinet on Monday 18th February.

If agreed, a number of two hour free bays will be added to the districts three busiest carparks, allowing residents to access and enjoy the town centres.

Ten percent of the spaces at Sutton Market Place, Hodgkinson Road, Kirkby and Piggins Croft, Hucknall will be marked out as two hour free bays, with the rest of the bays within these car parks continuing to have one hours free parking.

The introduction of two hours free car parking will follow on from the success of the free weekend parking during December. Hundreds of residents took advantage of the free parking increasing footfall across all our town centres.

If approved, Cabinet will regularly review the success of the free parking bays.

There are also plans to add 11 electric vehicle-charging points to public carparks across the district. The rapid charging points charge vehicles in around 45minutes, allowing drivers to charge their vehicles whilst enjoying the districts town centres and outdoor space. By securing external funding we are able to provide these charging points at no extra cost to local taxpayers.
