Council Invites Expressions of Interest

Wednesday 1 February 2017 Council Invites Expressions of Interest

In order to address Ashfield District Council Corporate plan priorities, an extensive Leisure Facilities Review has been undertaken. The evidence and consultation findings had a clear approach including maximising and rationalising the use of council assets including Huthwaite Leisure Centre.

Huthwaite Leisure Centre is sited in Huthwaite, Sutton in Ashfield and is in Council ownership. The facility was originally a school and more recently converted to a leisure centre with a gym, one court hall, bar, kitchen, snooker room, associated changing facilities and office space. There is off street parking.

A report was placed before Cabinet on January 19th and approval was given to terminate the contract with the leisure operator giving six months contract termination notice and to seek alternative options for the site with no subsidy from the council. We therefore invite community groups or other interested parties to submit a sustainable business plan to operate the site, with or without a leisure focus, at no future cost to the council.

Under the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987 (as amended) and The Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 2015, the use class of the above premises fall within D2 – Assembly and Leisure. Any changes to this use may require planning consent.

Interested parties should note that the provisions of Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 1981 may apply.

The intention is to go to the open market for a period of 6 weeks after which the council will evaluate any business plans submitted to see if there are any suitable options for the future of the site. If an alternative is not found the site will be closed at the completion of the leisure contract notice period and a site options appraisal will be undertaken for its disposal. The council is open to all proposals for the future of the site although it is emphasised that there will be no cost to the council and there is no guarantee that any proposals will be followed through into practise.

If further information is required to aid submission please contact Joy Elmer, Leisure Performance Officer at before Wednesday 22nd February 2017
