The 16th Annual Greenwood Community Awards took place on Wednesday 11th September 2019 at Swancar Farm Country House, Trowell.

Nottinghamshire County Councillor and Champion of the Greenwood Community Forest, Councillor Phil Rostance, presented the awards to community groups and individual volunteers, for outstanding contribution towards improving the environment.

Nominations were received from groups and organisations for environmental work carried out over the last year working towards the creation of the Greenwood Community Forest

Following a barbecue, over one hundred guests enjoyed a review of achievements in 2018/19 by volunteers and organisations presented by Margret Vince, Chair of the Friends of Greenwood Community Forum.

Twelve awards were presented on the night to volunteers from all areas of Greenwood and included awards for individuals and teams of all ages and abilities who take part in conservation tasks or work behind the scenes.

A highlight of the evening was a heritage award for “Mr Ashfield” Darron Ellis and a framed certificate of achievement presented to the Chair of Ashfield District Council in recognition of all environmental volunteers in the Ashfield district.  There was also an award for long standing Hucknall Taking Steps.


Ashfields Award Winners:

  • Darron Ellis for his dedication to communities in the Ashfield area.
  • Ashfield Volunteers who regularly get involved in a variety of environmental activities in Ashfield district.
  • Hucknall Taking Steps for providing gentle physical exercise in a safe environment as well as companionship.
