The first Hucknall Community Games was held on Wednesday 1st October 2019, to mark International Older Peoples Day and National ADHD day.
The event took place at Hucknall Leisure Centre and was hosted by Hucknall Rotary Club in partnership with Ashfield District Council, Everyone Active and Portland College. The games provided the opportunity for children with special educational needs and older adults to participate together in a fun team competition at Hucknall Leisure Centre.
Over 40 participants were given the opportunity to try boccia, new age kurling, table top games, dance and Olympic themed arts and crafts. Everyone who attended received a medal of participation. Additional medals, for the best spirit of the games, were awarded to the team who showed great support and interacted well with the other participants.
Students from Portland College supported the delivery of the activities, gaining valuable work experience.
The event proved to be huge success with positive feedback and many smiling faces from all involved. It is hoped that a similar event will be made available during 2020.
Cllr Tom Hollis, Portfolio holder for Health and Leisure, Ashfield District Council, said “We are very proud to have been able to support the delivery of this fantastic event which was full of inclusive activities. The games on offer were enjoyed by all participants. The Council will always support inclusive, accessible initiatives that encourage all residents to get active.”
