National pub chain JD Wetherspoon are showing their commitment to Sutton town centre with a major investment in the Picture House.
The pub located on Fox Street, Sutton is set to be extended and redeveloped following the purchase of land adjacent to the pub.
Ashfield District Council has ambitious plans for Sutton town centre as a place people want to live, work and enjoy their leisure time. Having already invested millions in Idlewells indoor market, the Council has set out further plans in the Sutton Town Centre Masterplan, with aims to make Sutton a thriving town centre once again.
Cllr Jason Zadrozny, Leader of Ashfield District council said “Investment from national brands like Wetherspoon’s show they have confidence in the town centre and we hope this will lead to further investment from other brands.
“It’s fantastic to see that this much loved heritage building will be expanded to provide more capacity. Improving and diversifying the evening economy in Sutton is one of our priorities, and this investment will add to the towns overall offer. This investment, along with investments from B&M and Subway in Kirkby and ARC Cinema in Hucknall show that national retailers are seeing the potential in our town centres.”
The development will see the Picture House extended, expanding its capacity and completely refitted. There will also be a new outdoor area for customers to enjoy.
Wetherspoon chief executive John Hutson said: “The Picture House is an extremely popular pub and we are always keen to give our customers the best possible experience.
“The redevelopment work will allow us to do that.
“The investment shows our commitment to the town and hopefully it will act as a catalyst for other businesses to invest in Sutton.”
