Dozens of young people recently enjoyed a healthy food event hosted in Sutton Town Centre.
Ashfield District Council delivered the Healthy Eating event on Monday 10th June at Ikon Community Church, Sutton in Ashfield.
The event was enjoyed by 75 young people from primary schools in the Sutton area, who were joined by Cllr Anthony Brewer, Chairman of Ashfield District Council.
The event provided an opportunity to learn more about the Eatwell Guide, physical activity, sugar awareness and recycling as well as an opportunity to cook a healthy recipe.
Asda (Sutton in Ashfield), Everyone Health, Everyone Active, Ashfield District Council and Cookscool, supported the event workshops.
The schools event was delivered as part of a new project called Feel Good Food, which was launched on 30th May by celebrity chef, Jean Christophe Novelli. The chef visited Portland Square in Sutton and gave various healthy eating demonstrations.
Feel Good Food aims to build knowledge, confidence and awareness of residents in the Sutton area to eat healthily and shop local. The project is funded by Nottinghamshire County Council and delivered by Ashfield District Council in partnership with Everyone Health, Idlewells Shopping Centre, Idlewells Market and Asda, Sutton in Ashfield.
Cllr Anthony Brewer, Chairman of Ashfield District Council, commented “It was a wonderful opportunity to engage with children about the importance of healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle. It was fantastic to see so many local youngsters learning vital life skills whilst having a thoroughly good time. There was so many different activities for them to get involved with and I hope that they put the lessons they learnt into practise at home.”
