Ashfield District Council’s Building Control Section was called out on Friday to deal with a dangerous structure at Romans, Annesley Road, Hucknall.
It has been necessary to close the road until temporary support and remedial safety works have been undertaken.
We can confirm that there has been a partial collapse of the roof structure at Romans. This is placing a load on the front wall of the building which is considered potentially dangerous.
The owners are arranging for scaffolding to be erected which will remain in position whilst other remedial works are carried out, however at this stage it is envisaged that half of the carriage way will be re-opened with traffic signals either end when it is safe to do so. All the road closure and scaffolding works are being undertaken in consultation with Nottinghamshire County Council who are responsible for the highways.
Our paramount concern is to maintain public safety and so the road will remain closed until we are satisfied the building has been made safe.
We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and would assure the general public that the road will be re-opened as soon as possible.
