‘It was all yellow’ as a record number of shops and businesses got involved in the Tour of Britain Shop Window Competition.
Organised by Ashfield District Council in partnership with Hucknall Tourism and Regeneration; Kirkby Traders Forum and Sutton Town Centre Group, the competitions, held in Hucknall, Kirkby and Sutton, were put on to decorate the district as the Tour of Britain bike race passed through each of the town centres.
The competitions were aimed at promoting town centres and their businesses, encouraging community spirit, increasing footfall and customer spend.
With criteria based on originality, theme and WOW factor, judging the overall winners proved difficult as businesses across the district tested their creativity.
First prizes went to Bliss Boutique of High Street, Hucknall; Rose Bower of Outram Street, Sutton (pictured above); and Scissors Hair and Beauty of Kingsway, Kirkby. All competition winners received a trophy and a meal for two kindly donated by J.D. Wetherspoon.
All prizes for each of the competitions were as follows:
Hucknall: 1st - Bliss Boutique; 2nd - Nottingham Building Society; 3rd - Fur-ever Friends
Sutton: 1st - Rose Bower; 2nd - Flowfayre Plumbing and Heating
Kirkby: 1st - Scissors Hair and Beauty; 2nd - Brisco’s Chemist
Councillor Don Davis, Deputy Leader of the Council said: “I’d like to thank all the shops and businesses who have got involved in all three competitions.
“It was also great to see the number of people who decorated their houses and streets along the route. The end result really enhanced the community spirit both in the lead up to the event and on the day itself”.
