Hardship funding available to homes and businesses 

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has written to the Local Authority Chief Executives in the areas worst affected by Storm Babet confirming the aid available through the Flood Recovery Framework. This includes Ashfield.

What this means for our residents

Ashfield District Council is administering a package of support for people who suffered flooding in their homes and businesses, which includes a Community Recovery Grant of £500 per household, a 100% Council Tax Discount, 100% Business Rates Relief and a Business Recovery Grant.

The funding is available to anyone whose property suffered internal flood damage, or for people who were not able to live in their property for more than 48 hours as a direct result of Storm Babet, between the dates of 19-25 October 2023.

What this means for our businesses

A Business Recovery Grant of £2500 is being made available to small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) businesses that have been impacted by floods. There are a number of eligibility criteria to qualify for this grant.

Eligible businesses premises (namely premises from which a small or medium sized business (“SME”) actively trades – this does not include warehouses or storage sheds unless the business actively trades from the warehouse or shed) within flooded areas are those which:

  • are premises which are directly impacted by the weather event – for instance there was flood damage to the premises; or
  • are premises which are indirectly impacted by the weather event – for instance the business premises has had no/highly restricted access to premises, equipment and/or stock as a result of flooding, restricted access for customers, suppliers and/or staff; and directly suffered a loss of trade as a result.
