Cemetery Services

We have six cemeteries located across the district; Annesley Cemetery, Kingsway Old Cemetery, Kingsway New Cemetery, Huthwaite Cemetery, Hucknall Cemetery and Sutton Cemetery.

At both Hucknall Cemetery and Kingsway New Cemetery a full service may be held in the cemetery chapels, followed by the burial. Alternatively, on all sites a service could be held in a church or other venue and the coffin or ashes brought to the cemetery for burial only.

If you would like enquire into holding a burial or scattering at one of our sites, please contact us on: 01623 457462.

Exhumations are the removal from the ground of human remains, whether as a body or as cremated remains. This includes the moving of a body from the original grave to a new grave, sending a body for cremation or to allow police or coroner intervention. Any exhumation requires a licence from the Ministry of Justice, details of how to apply can be found at www.gov.uk/apply-for-an-exhumation-licence.

If the owner of the Rights of Burial dies, a legal transfer to a new owner needs to take place. It is usually done at the time of the burial but it can be done at any time. If you wish to enquire about transferring ownership, please contact the cemetery office on 01623 457462.

There are a number of war graves and memorials within Ashfield, these can be found both within our cemeteries and within the wider district.

A number of the war graves are maintained by the Commonwealth War Grave Commission, however if you have any questions or queries about any war grave or memorial please contact us on 01623 457462.
