Get involved

Why get involved in Ashfield District Council and the services we deliver?

There are lots of people in Ashfield with knowledge and experience of working in their local area.

We need your help to make sure that the services we deliver to you are what you want and need. There are lots of ways you can get involved, whether it is sparing a few moments to give us your opinion or from being involved with our Tenants Gateway.  There is something for everyone and your views count.

What is the Tenants Gateway?

The Tenants Gateway is a group of volunteers who help make decisions with officers concerning the improvement of services delivered to tenants by the Council. The Tenants Gateway also reviews performance, identifies areas of concern to allow for service improvements and is used to consults tenants on proposed changes to policies and procedures/new legislation.

Make up of the group

The group is made up of a maximum of 16 tenant volunteers, representing all areas of the District. We look to have 6 representatives from Sutton, 4 from Kirkby and Hucknall, with 2 representatives from Rural areas.

What is involved?

Meetings are held every two months (at our Brook Street Office) and last for about 2 hours. Information for the meetings is sent out in advance to give you the opportunity to read through any documents and read up on any agenda items. The meetings are attended by Senior Managers from Ashfield District Council, dependant on the topics under discussion.

In addition to the regular meetings, if you have more spare time, there are also other activities you could get involved in. Tenants Gateway will form subgroups to look at things they have highlighted as an area of interest.

Expenses e.g. bus fares can be claimed back.

How can I become a Gateway representative?

You do not need to have any specific qualifications or experience just enthusiasm and an interest in getting involved in decision making. You will need to complete an application form and then following return you will be invited for an in informal interview.

How much of my time and commitment will it take?

That is entirely up to you. Check out the links below for more ways to get involved or see our Tenants Charter attached for details.  Each one gives you an idea of how much of your time and the level of commitment needed.
