Chairman of the Council in support of Ducklings Charity

Chairman of the Council, Cllr Dale Grounds wanted to show his support for one of his chosen charities, Ducklings by hosting a tour of the Council Offices and the new Kirkby Leisure Centre for a young boy named Harley on 21 August.

Harley was born with kidney problems and spent the first few years of his young life visiting the Queens Medical Centre and Nottinghamshire’s Childrens Hospital. This is where Cllr Dale Grounds met Harley, dressed as the friendly neighbourhood spider man in support of Ducklings Charity, and hanging around and raising spirits in his free time.

Harley’s father was able to donate a kidney to his son and thankfully Harley’s health and life have improved for the better, so much so, this year Harley took part in the British Transplant Games and won three medals, a true superhero.

On the visit Harley took a tour of the Council Offices in Kirkby, to see behind the scenes, which included a visit to the police, where Harley got to wear the police uniform and inspect officers on duty and a ride in a refuge lorry. The friendly Councillor Spider Man then took Harley over to the New Kirkby Leisure Centre for a session in the Soft Play area, Table Tennis, and a tour of whole facility.

The Chairman of the Council, Cllr Dale Grounds said: “I remember first meeting Harley at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham 8 years ago and he was joy to be around. Having met Harley many times, it’s great to see him in a better place with a thirst for life. It was my pleasure to have Harley as my stand in Deputy Chairman for the day and for a fun day at the fantastic new Leisure Centre in Kirkby. I’d like to thank the family and Ducklings for allowing me the opportunity to support the community”.
