New housing on Stoney Street completed

Ashfield District Council have completed the construction of another five new family homes on Stoney Street in Sutton.

The site is made up of three three-bedroom houses and two two-bedroom houses which have been built on an underused Council owned car park. The houses have been designed to minimise heating costs to help with climate change and fuel poverty. They have added insulation in the walls and roof, windows with high thermal efficiency, and increased air tightness through joint taping.  

These five family homes will add to the Council’s growing housing portfolio. In the past couple of months several new Council homes have been built across the District and are now occupied. These include four bungalows on The Beeches in Skegby, and The Poplars in Sutton; and fifteen family homes on derelict garage sites in Hucknall on Barbara Square, Hawthorne Avenue, Chatsworth Drive, and Chestnut Grove. 

Also in Sutton, the first four properties of the 22 being built on Davies Avenue, are close to completion. Ground has now been broken on Midland Road which will welcome 20 new homes in 2023.  

Cllr Jason Zadrozny, Leader of Ashfield District Council, commented:

“The homes on Stoney Street are wonderful and will be quality homes for future generations. They have been finished to such a high standard with quality fixtures and finishes. I’m sure the new tenants will be over the moon with them. This Council made a promise to residents that we would do everything possible to build new, quality homes.  The homes on Stoney Street are just the latest example.”

Cllr Tom Hollis, Executive Lead Member for Council and Social Housing, said:

“The Council has plans to build over 100 new Council houses over the next few years and we have made excellent progress with this in the space of a year. We have completed 24 houses so far. This number will continue to rise as we hand over even more quality homes in the coming months. I’m extremely proud of this Council’s work to bring these projects together and deliver for the people of Ashfield.”
